China's Second Largest Internet Portal Deploys Force10 Networks S-Series Switches to Power Search Engine
Business Wire, Oct 30, 2007
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Force10 Networks([R]), the pioneer in building and securing reliable networks, today announced that NetEase, the second largest Internet portal in China, has deployed the S2410 data center switch and the S50 access switch to build a high performance, low latency 10 Gigabit Ethernet network that powers its search engine. Together, the Force10 S2410 and S50 deliver the reliability, network control and scalability NetEase requires throughout its search engine data center.
"Providing our growing user base with the answers they are looking for in the shortest amount of time is critical to our success in the competitive search engine business," said Mr. Lei Ding, CEO at NetEase. "The S2410 and S50 allow us to optimize our network for the demanding search engine market and, more importantly, provide the high line-rate density and low latency we need to ensure a quick and quality search experience for our customers."
To support its search engine business, NetEase deployed the Force10 S50 at the edge of its data center and the S2410 in the core to create a high performance, low latency 10 Gigabit Ethernet network. The Force10 end-to-end data center solution provides NetEase with the scalability it needs at the edge of the network to accommodate expansions in computing power, and the low latency 10 Gigabit Ethernet it needs in the core to ensure queries are rapidly processed and results returned to users.
With support for 24 line-rate CX4 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports and a switching latency of 300 nanoseconds, the S2410 provides a cost-effective way for NetEase to capture both the cost and management benefits of Ethernet as well as the low latency of Infiniband. This combination of features allows NetEase to deliver a unique search engine to its users and distinguish itself in a competitive market.
"Increasingly, search engines require not only rapid throughput on network equipment but also low latency to guarantee instant results," said Stephen Garrison, vice president of marketing at Force10 Networks. "The Force10 end-to-end data center solution delivers the inherent reliability NetEase requires to fully leverage its network as a strategic pillar of its business."
Over the last year Force10 has continued to expand its presence in China. With country headquarters and a regional technical assistance center in Beijing as well as additional sales offices in Guangzhou and Shanghai, Force10 can dynamically respond to a growing customer base and provide high touch, 24x7 service and support. In addition to NetEase, Force10 also powers the networks of Sina and Baidu, the top three Internet portals in China.
Reliable Networking by Force10 delivers the reliability, network control and scalability required to ensure networks can flexibly support evolving and emerging applications and services. Force10's reliable networking solutions enable customers like NetEase to future proof their network while providing customers with a high quality experience.
