Work Slowdown at One of Pace's Chicago Paratransit Carriers

Pace advises alternatives including free rides on CTA and Pace fixed bus routes

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. -- A work slowdown is underway at one of the three contract carriers that operate ADA paratransit service in the City of Chicago for Pace. The work slowdown is the result of negotiations with CDT; not with Pace.

CDT is the largest of the three private companies that contract with Pace to operate the service for eligible persons with disabilities. The work slowdown potentially means passengers will have a difficult time getting where they need to go. Pace Board Chairman Richard Kwasneski said, "It is our sincerest hope that the situation is resolved quickly. We're deeply concerned about the consequences this will have on the lives of the people who depend on this service."

The following alternatives are recommended for regular users of CDT:

* When possible, use fixed route bus service. CTA and Pace will accept passengers' ADA identification card for free rides during the work slowdown.

* Rides can still be arranged with the other two carriers, SCR and Art's Transportation. Service will also be available on CDT to a limited extent.

* Taxi Access Program (TAP) vouchers are another alternate option for service.

* It is strongly suggested that passengers defer any unnecessary trips until the work stoppage has concluded in order to reduce strain on the system.

Users of the ADA paratransit service in Chicago who have questions about their service or these alternatives are encouraged to contact Pace Passenger Relations at (847) 364-7223.

Because the General Assembly has not taken action to address transit funding, Pace must move forward to raise fares on ADA paratransit service in Chicago to $3.00 on November 4 from the current rate of $2.25 per trip. A fare hike and the elimination of some of Pace's fixed route and Metra Feeder service also takes place on the same date.
