Michele J. Hooper Joins UnitedHealth Group's Board of Directors

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Board of Directors of UnitedHealth Group (NYSE:UNH) today announced the appointment of Michele J. Hooper to the Board of Directors, effective immediately.
Ms. Hooper is a managing partner and co-founder of The Directors' Council, a private company that works with corporate boards to increase their independence, effectiveness and diversity. From 1999 until 2000, Ms. Hooper was president and chief executive officer of Voyager Expanded Learning, a developer and provider of learning programs and teacher training for public schools. Prior to that, she held executive positions at Stadtlander Drug Company, Inc., and Caremark International, Inc.
Ms. Hooper currently serves as senior independent director for the board of AstraZeneca PLC and as a director for PPG Industries and Warner Music Group Corp. She was recently appointed one of the first public board members of the Center for Audit Quality, an autonomous public policy organization dedicated to fostering confidence in the audit process by promoting the audit profession's core values of integrity, objectivity, honesty and trust. Ms. Hooper is a board member of the National Association of Corporate Directors and president of the NACD Chicago Chapter. She is also a board member of the Center for Disease Control Foundation.
