ActivePHR to Help Users of the Consumer Health Platform Make the Most Informed Healthcare Decisions

NEW YORK & WASHINGTON -- ActiveHealth Management (ActiveHealth([R])), a clinically-based, technology-driven health management services company, today announced that the company's intelligent, interactive personal health record (PHR) will be featured on Microsoft HealthVault, Microsoft Corp.'s new consumer health platform. The ActivePHR(SM) program's patient-centered, patient-controlled design supports HealthVault's goal of delivering technology solutions that help people live better, longer lives by enabling them to make the best health and wellness decisions. ActiveHealth is an independent subsidiary of Aetna([R]) (NYSE: AET).

"ActivePHR is one of those exciting applications in the HealthVault family that will provide real value for many people right away," said Peter Neupert, Corporate Vice President of the Health Solutions Group at Microsoft. "ActivePHR gives consumers the opportunity to collect, understand and share their health data in a private and secure manner."

Powered by CareEngine([R]) System, ActiveHealth's patented, evidence-based clinical decision support technology, ActivePHR goes beyond the standard functions of a PHR by identifying individualized, actionable opportunities to enhance care and lower healthcare costs.

HealthVault users will be encouraged to add to their ActivePHR personal information like smoking status, allergies, family history, over-the-counter medications, and herbal supplements. User-entered data will be compiled with other available sources of data. CareEngine System will then scan the information and compare it against the latest findings in evidence-based literature to identify individualized, actionable opportunities to improve care.

"Transforming healthcare requires the collaboration of leaders from across the healthcare industry," said Lonny Reisman, MD, CEO of ActiveHealth Management. "ActivePHR will be a key component of Microsoft's consumer-centric healthcare platform. Our clinical decision support technology and clinical expertise will empower HealthVault users by enabling them to make more informed health decisions for themselves and their families."

"Microsoft HealthVault provides ActiveHealth with a powerful platform to directly reach consumers with the CareEngine," said Ronald A. Williams, Chairman and CEO of Aetna, parent of ActiveHealth Management. "The CareEngine is unique in its ability to consolidate fragmented health data, compare it against the latest findings in evidence-based literature, and provide immediate, relevant feedback to each individual, giving them a greater opportunity to manage their own health and quality of life. That is a breakthrough in technology and capability and we are determined to make it widely available to consumers."

Microsoft's Health Solutions Group (HSG) launched HealthVault today at a press event in Washington D.C. Dr. Reisman participated in the program.
