Lawson applications to help Anne Arundel County Public Schools simplify payroll and reporting required by the No Child Left Behind Act

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Lawson Software (Nasdaq:LWSN) today announced that Anne Arundel County Public Schools licensed the Lawson S3 Human Capital Management Suite to assist in tracking and reporting on data mandated by the No Child Left Behind Act as well as to help improve operational efficiencies and data access. The contract was signed in Lawson's first quarter of fiscal 2008, which ended Aug. 31, 2007. Lawson Professional Services will provide implementation services.

With 74,000 students and more than 6,000 teachers, Anne Arundel County Public Schools is the fifth largest school district in Maryland and one of the nation's 50 largest school districts. It operates 77 elementary schools, 19 middle schools and 12 high schools along with 10 other schools and specialized centers, such as an alternative high school, a middle school learning center and a special education program.

"Our department supports a large staff and community of parents and students," said Florence Bozzella, director of human resources for Anne Arundel County Public Schools. "Lawson's intuitive, Web-based system will help us maintain a high level of service while giving us more time to focus on strategic activities, such as recruitment and reporting."

The Lawson application will replace the district's legacy human resources system, for which vendor maintenance is no longer available. Once implemented, the Lawson S3 Human Capital Management Suite will help make it simpler for district human resources staff to track and report on information required by the No Child Left Behind Act, such as teacher qualifications. In addition, the Lawson Employee & Manager Self-Service application will empower district employees by granting them online access to their human resources information. This will enable employees to access and update their personal data, such as home address and benefits information, and determine what additional training they may need to maintain their credentials as mandated by federal law.

The district also expects the Lawson system to help increase efficiencies within its human resources department by reducing paperwork, manual data entry and the time staff spend fielding employee questions. The system also will help the district automate its complex payroll, which includes employees on contract and reserve pay as well as teachers with 10-month salaries split over 12 months.

"Teachers and district staff are at the core of students' success, but they can't do it alone," said Ken Munson, marketing director, Public Services, Lawson Software. "High-performing school districts like Anne Arundel County recognize this, offering teachers, students and parents a highly collaborative environment that leverages technology in the classroom and for administration. Lawson's flexible, easy-to-use business applications help districts better serve their workforce so teachers and staff can focus on serving students and communities."

Lawson serves more than 120 public services customers, including three of the top seven digital state governments and four of the 25 largest school districts in the United States. Governments, cities, counties, school districts, publicly owned utilities/authorities and special districts rely on Lawson solutions to help meet the needs of a variety of stakeholders [?] constituents, employees, students, vendors and the community [?] while helping to maximize limited budgets.
