NYU Stern Commemorates Year One in Westchester; Unveils New, State-of-the-Art Classrooms
Business Wire, Oct 8, 2007
NEW YORK -- New York University Stern School of Business' #1 ranked Langone Part-time MBA Program* is celebrating a successful first year in Westchester at the Purchase College campus, and is revealing newly renovated classrooms at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Since launching its Westchester program in September 2006, Stern has enrolled 152 students, and more than 1,000 working professionals have attended admissions information sessions in the area.
Stern offers working professionals evening and weekend-only options to pursue an MBA at its Washington Square Campus in New York City. The expansion to the Westchester location provides professionals with yet another way to pursue an MBA at Stern, as well as the added flexibility to choose a preferred option based on schedule or location. Current students at the Westchester satellite hail from diverse industries and companies in the Westchester/Fairfield area, including IBM, General Electric, UBS, Citi and PepsiCo, to cite a few.
"With nearly 10,000 Stern alumni living or working in Westchester and Fairfield counties, we already have strong local support and an established alumni community," said Thomas F. Cooley, dean, NYU Stern School of Business. "By extending our Langone Program to Westchester, we've been able to attract working professionals who would like to earn an MBA degree closer to their work and homes. Our impressive inaugural classes confirm the rich talent pool that is in this area."
"Having the Stern School of Business on our campus at Purchase College relates very well to our economics program. We are proud of the association with New York University. The investment in classroom and office space on our campus has provided state-of-the-art facilities our students and faculty can use when Stern classes are not in session. It is a win-win situation for all of us," said Thomas J. Schwarz, president, Purchase College, State University of New York.
The new Stern classrooms at the Purchase College campus provide a modern learning and social environment comparable to that found at the Washington Square campus, as well as the ability to link the two campuses electronically. The classrooms incorporate many technological enhancements, such as "SMART" Sympodium Tablet interface, a writable screen that allows professors to annotate presentations, spreadsheets or web sites; wireless Internet access; ceiling-mounted microphones and speakers; and a wall-mounted camera for automated recording of class sessions. The audio/visual equipment and Internet access enable students in Westchester to watch live streaming video of special events at the Washington Square campus. In addition, dedicated meeting spaces, conference rooms and administrative/faculty offices promote student/faculty interaction and community building. The renovated facilities provide the highest quality educational experience to Langone students at the Westchester campus.
