Time Warner Scores 100 on Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index
Business Wire, Sept 17, 2007
NEW YORK -- Time Warner has earned a top score of 100 on Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index for 2008. The Human Rights Campaign is America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality. The CEI rates employers on a scale from 0 to 100 percent based on their treatment of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender employees, consumers, and investors. A company's score determines its ranking in HRC's annual "Buying for Equality" and "Best Places to Work" reports.
Time Warner's 100 rating represents the fact that the company offers equal benefits and protections for its employees based on gender identity or expression and sexual orientation. Among the criteria for the CEI are the presence of comprehensive domestic-partner benefits, transgender benefits and guidelines, diversity training that covers sexual orientation and transgender issues, a GLBT resource group for employees, and support of the GLBT community.
The release of HRC's 2008 CEI comes weeks before the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) is scheduled to be considered by the U.S. House of Representatives. This landmark legislation, which Time Warner supports as a member of the Business Coalition for Workplace Fairness, would ban discrimination in the workplace on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.
"We've long believed that a successful company is one that reflects the world in which we live and work, and we're proud to support ENDA and the invaluable work of HRC. There's still a long road to travel before the business world is free of discrimination, and we urge our colleagues and peers to join in the effort to ensure a safe and welcoming workplace for all," said Lisa Quiroz, Senior Vice President of Corporate Responsibility.
