One Georgia Bank and Cheveyo Entertainment LLC Present Getting into College: The Movie

Business Wire,  Sept 19, 2007

ATLANTA -- Today, President and CEO of One Georgia Bank, Mr. Willard "Chuck" Lewis and Dr. Betty Siegel, past President of Kennesaw State University, along with other community leaders announced that they will be hosting the premiere of Getting Into College: The Movie. A new DVD written and produced by Kathryn Beane to help high school students (and their parents) navigate the college admissions process. The DVD, a two-disc set comprised of a teen-oriented "edutainment" movie and extensive interviews with big-name deans of admission, college counselors and financial aid professionals, has been nearly two years in the making.

Ms. Beane conceived of the project while earning her Masters Degree in Film and Television Producing at the University of Southern California's prestigious Peter Stark Program. Her mother, Nancy Beane, has been the College Counselor for Girls at The Westminster Schools in Atlanta since 1993, putting Beane, at a young age, in close proximity to admissions information.

"I was sitting in a class on non-mainstream producing when it suddenly occurred to me that I could combine my access to the college admissions community with my passion for filmmaking to create something truly unique. I started researching the marketplace and couldn't find much of anything similar," says Beane. "Kathryn's project represented a rare opportunity for us to finance a high quality motion picture. It also fits with one of our strategic goals of promoting education and helping young people," according to Lewis.

Rather than seeking to replace guidebooks and similar such resources, the DVD offers students a starting point in the college process, high ground from which to survey the forest before attempting to navigate among the trees. According to Beane, "The whole admissions process can be pretty intimidating, and the sheer amount of information available on the topic is overwhelming. I wanted to offer every student a way into the college process. Thanks to our relationship with One Georgia Bank we made it happen!"
