Mainstream Data to Distribute Lusa Content in Europe and Africa

Business Wire, Sept 5, 2007

SALT LAKE CITY & NEW YORK -- Mainstream Data announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Portugal Telecom (PT) and Lusa (Portugal's national press agency) to distribute news stories and photographs to Lusa's newspaper and media customers in Europe and Africa via Mainstream's satellite and MediasNet[TM] (Internet) networks. Lusa employs over 300 full-time journalists to provide complete, real-time coverage of breaking news and other significant events throughout Portugal and other parts of the world.

PT currently provides LUSA a wide range of services such as network operations, telecommunication services, help desk support, and customer service. Teaming with PT, Mainstream was selected by LUSA to replace its existing satellite distribution system with Mainstream's state-of-the-art news distribution platform. Under the terms of the agreement, Mainstream uses a combination of its satellite and Internet delivery technologies, along with its Medias Server[TM] product to serve Lusa's diverse customer base. Medias Server is Mainstream's proprietary application server created specifically to integrate multimedia content delivered over satellite and the Internet. Medias Server employs automatic failover functionality to switch between satellite and Internet feeds and to guarantee data delivery to end-user sites.

Additionally, Mainstream provides Lusa with a new text processing technology allows much greater flexibility for Lusa and its end-users. Through a simple process, XML files are easily converted to HTML, NewsML, plain text, and any number of customized XML formats. This high level of flexibility enables Lusa to deliver targeted content in customized formats to each end-user.

The contract evidences Mainstream's continuing commitment to meet the needs of information providers and news agencies worldwide. Mainstream's hybrid delivery network and its Medias Server product are two of the many products Mainstream offers in its Medias product suite. In addition to Medias Server, Mainstream offers a wide range of content distribution options including broadcast satellite, two-way VSAT, managed FTP delivery, and MediasNet, the company's Internet-push delivery service.

"Partnering with Mainstream and PT is a great step for us," said Paulo Nogueira dos Santos, Director of Technology for Lusa. "Mainstream's hybrid delivery platform gives us greater reliability, while PT's customer service and network maintenance provide us the coverage we need. Additionally, we are gaining a tremendous amount of flexibility in the way we can now customize our content for customers, while at the same time, reducing our costs."

"We are thrilled to provide our No-Compromise Digital Network to Lusa for its European and African delivery needs," said Scott E. Calder, President and CEO of Mainstream Data. "By allowing Mainstream to manage the distribution of its content and develop ways to customize their data, Lusa can focus on its core business."
