RGB Networks and C-COR Boost VOD Capacity
Business Wire, Sept 6, 2007
Partner Companies Pack 50 Percent More On-Demand Content in the Same Bandwidth in IBC Demonstration
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands -- RGB Networks (www.rgbnetworks.com) and C-COR Incorporated (NASDAQ:CCBL) (www.c-cor.com) are teaming to deliver integrated solutions that enhance the delivery of on-demand digital video services, providing a significant increase in the capacity available for on-demand content as well as performing high-density digital advertising insertion.
In C-COR's stand (550 in hall 1) at IBC 2007 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, September 6-11, RGB and C-COR will jointly demonstrate integrated solutions for both digital advertising insertion and VOD (video on demand) bandwidth optimization. In the first demonstration, RGB's Dynamic Bandwidth Manager (DBM) will perform real-time statistical multiplexing on VOD streams delivered by C-COR's n5[TM] Video Server, enabling the delivery of 50 percent more programming in the same bandwidth without impacting picture quality. The resulting 50 percent capacity increase is gained by sending five additional standard definition VOD streams on top of the standard 10 streams in the same amount of spectrum. The second demonstration will show RGB's Broadcast Network Processor (BNP) working in conjunction with C-COR's n5 Video Server to splice digital advertisements into multiple ad zones.
"The combination of RGB's Dynamic Bandwidth Manager and C-COR's VOD platform is a compelling solution for cable operators worldwide, enabling them to deliver more VOD programming without the need to upgrade their network infrastructure or add new QAM modulators, and without affecting the user experience. From picture quality to VOD's fast-forward, rewind and pause 'trickplay' features, end users will see no degradation in service," said Ramin Farassat, Vice President of Product Marketing for RGB Networks.
"Beyond the collapsing content release windows and availability of increasing amounts of HD content, operators are faced with delivering multiple on-demand services, often with a set amount of bandwidth," said Basil Badawiyeh, Vice President, On Demand Strategy, C-COR. "Our open platforms afford us the ability to easily integrate with partners, such as RGB, to combine our individual strengths and offer customers a tailored solution that uniquely addresses their needs. Now operators who need to increase the throughput of their on-demand services can do so easily and without upgrading or expanding their bandwidth capacity in the last mile."
C-COR's modular approach to broadband capacity expansion, operational service support and array of revenue-generating video services build and maintain a sustainable, competitive network. C-COR is the worldwide market leader in both linear and advanced cable advertising, pioneering the industry's first Gigabit Ethernet DPI solution, the first major market pilot of dynamic on-demand advertising, and the first launch of DPI in Europe. C-COR also blazed the first IPTV VOD deployments in Europe. C-COR's nABLE[TM] is the industry's first open back office on-demand software to be deployed with third-party on-demand servers. nABLE is the cornerstone of the company's Unified Management and Delivery Platform, providing complete service and content delivery of on-demand, time-shifted TV, switched digital video, and linear and advanced advertising capabilities from a single hardware and software platform.
Complementing its bandwidth optimizing capabilities, RGB's DBM is exceptionally easy to deploy as it processes VOD programs in real-time, eliminating the need for complicated pre-processing of the programs and any complex integration with VOD servers. Operators simply 'plug' the DBM into existing VOD deployments, as it is compatible with all the major components of an end-to-end VOD system, including VOD servers, resource managers, quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) modulators, and existing set-top boxes. As a real-time processing solution, the DBM works equally well in U.S., European, and Asian DVB networks.
RGB's BNP, which has passed C-COR's interoperability testing, is designed to enable cable operators to deliver highly targeted and personalized video services. Housed in a one rack-unit platform, the BNP delivers the cable industry's highest-density solution for digital video grooming, statistical multiplexing, transrating, DPI, and digital overlays.
