PacketVideo Provides First End-to-End Music Service for Mobile and Broadband Access for Canada's TELUS Mobility

Upgrade to the TELUS Mobile Music Service Uses PacketVideo's MediaFusion platform for its Mobile and Web Storefront
LAS VEGAS -- The recent upgrade of TELUS' mobile music service in Canada features a first for mobile customers - the ability to sideload protected music tracks from a personal computer (PC) to mass market Java phones. The PC software and Java music client on the phone were both developed by PacketVideo Corporation (PV) based on its patented SDC DRM digital rights management technology.
Previously, sideloading of protected music had been limited to higher-end phones based on operating systems such as Symbian, Microsoft Windows Mobile or Qualcomm's BREW. The new solution from PV supports the broad base of Java-enabled handsets in the market, enabling TELUS' current music phones and supporting upgrades to many of its older models as well.
Users of the service now have the option of downloading songs from the TELUS-branded music store to their PCs or directly over-the-air to their mobile phones. As part of this service upgrade, PV is also hosting the TELUS music store based on PV's MediaFusion[TM] music platform. MediaFusion, a white-label server-client solution for rich media applications, supports both purchase and subscription business models. TELUS is using MediaFusion's content management back-end, which includes digital rights management, automatic content injection and end-user license vaults as well as the storefront for web and mobile access.
"The upgraded TELUS mobile music service represents the state-of-the-art for Java phones. Users benefit from increased access to their content when and where they want to enjoy it," said PacketVideo CEO James C. Brailean, Ph.D.
"PV's solution helps us reduce complexity and cost while offering a true first-of-its kind music experience to our customers," said David Neale, senior vice president, Products and Services at TELUS.
