First Live Demonstration of Alien[R] Intelligent Tag Radar[TM] Reader Platform and Alien H3 Integrated Circuit (IC) for Passive UHF RFID
MORGAN HILL, Calif. -- Alien Technology, a leader in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Ultra High Frequency (UHF) products and services, today announced its technology and application demonstration program at the RFID Journal Live conference taking place April 16 through April 18 in Las Vegas at the Venetian Resort Hotel.
As a premium sponsor of RFID Journal Live, Alien will demonstrate new technology advances in booth #243 and host application sessions at the RFID Momentum Pavilion at booth #242. In addition, Alien will deliver a general session keynote on April 17, along with 2 breakout speaker sessions on April 17 and 18.
Intelligent Tag Radar[TM]
At the conference, Alien will showcase a live demonstration of its new Intelligent Tag Radar (ITR) reader firmware functionality, developed for its ALR-9900, ALR-9800 and ALR-8800 Enterprise-Class reader platform. ITR provides information about the velocity and position of tags, in addition to the contents of tag memory. This enables the RFID system to enhance foundational applications of RFID, and will open up new applications and sources of ROI for users. Within Alien's Intelligent Tag Radar reader platform, is ITR-Singulation[TM], a feature enabling the reader to easily discriminate amongst adjacent tagged objects on a conveyor such as items, cases or airline baggage. This is accomplished using Alien's standard EPC Gen 2 passive tags and readers without the need for specialized antennas, sensors, or near-field equipment. Later this year, Alien will announce availability of its ITR platform. ITR includes: ITR-Singulation, ITR-Velocity[TM], ITR-Directionality[TM] and ITR-Range[TM]. The ITR-Singulation demonstration can be seen at Alien's booth #243.
"User surveys and interviews indicate that companies in industries ranging from retail to health care are enjoying significant business benefits from RFID, and seeking opportunities to expand those benefits," said Michael Dortch, senior analyst, Aberdeen Group. "Technology advancements such as Alien's ITR and H3 ICs give solution builders more options to deliver new offerings and features that can help users realize more and better bottom-line benefits from their RFID investments."
Alien H3 Integrated Circuit (IC) for Passive Tags
Earlier this month, Alien Technology announced sampling of its new high-performance H3 IC with extended memory and unique authentication security features. The new Alien H3 IC supports various memory configurations, enabling up to 496-bits of EPC data and up to 512-bits of user memory. The H3 IC is an optimal choice for applications such as: airline baggage; pharmaceutical drugs; secure access; e-passports; brand authentication and tracking of high-value assets and items, such as electronics, or wines and spirits. The capabilities of the new H3 chip can be seen at Alien's booth #243.
"Alien continues to lead the industry with new RFID technology advances for passive IC's, tags and readers," said George Everhart, CEO of Alien Technology. "With our product advances, partners can overcome common challenges for RFID adoption, and bring business benefits and return on investment to their customers within six to twelve months of implementation."
Speaker sessions
* George Everhart, CEO, will deliver his keynote "RFID Adoption for Emerging Markets & Applications" at 4:30 p.m. on April 17.
* Scot Stelter, director of reader product marketing, will host a breakout session on "Improving Airline Customer Service with RFID for Baggage Tracking" at 12:20 p.m. on April 17 - along with Mary Ann Allen from George Schmitt & Company.
