Company Profile for BioChemics, Inc
Business Wire, April 11, 2008
Headquartered in Danvers, Massachusetts, BioChemics Inc., is a specialty pharmaceutical company that has developed a novel, transdermal drug delivery system for the first time that may allow almost any drug to be efficiently delivered through the skin. The transdermal technology, called VALE[R] (Vaso-active Lipid Encapsulated), may allow a substantial portion of the pharmacopeia to be re-engineered, turning oral drugs into transdermals that are safer (no gastro-intestinal problems), less expensive and potentially faster acting (applied directly to the treated area) than oral equivalents.
To date, the only successful mechanism for transdermal drug delivery has been patch technology. However, patch technology only works with drugs that have the innate ability to disperse through the skin; a niche set of drugs limited to approximately a dozen molecules. BioChemics expects to use its technology's unique mechanism of action (VALE) to deliver a variety of drugs transdermally.
In addition, the Company has developed two other transdermal drug delivery technologies: PENtoCORE[R] and MicroNeedle which allow both intradermal as well as systemic delivery for small molecules and potentially larger molecules including proteins and peptides. The Company plans to leverage its relationships with key pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to enter and gain market share in the prescription drug market.
