FRX Polymers Receives 2008 Frost & Sullivan Product Innovation of the Year Award
Business Wire, April 14, 2008
CHELMSFORD, Mass. -- FRX Polymers, LLC (FRX) has received the 2008 Frost & Sullivan North American Product Innovation of the Year Award for flame-retardant materials.
The Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Innovation is presented each year to the company that has demonstrated excellence in new products and technologies within their industry. This year Frost & Sullivan awarded FRX Polymers, LLC in recognition of the company's creation of a new class of novel, high-performance flame-retardant plastics.
FRX's polymers are transparent, have high melt flow and are inherently fire resistance. They have a similar balance of mechanical and heat resistance properties to Polycarbonate. The company's polymers will find uses as specialty flame retardant plastics and also as non-halogen-containing polymeric phosphorus flame retardant additives. These plastics have the highest Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) of all commercial thermoplastics at 65%. LOI indicates the oxygen content required to sustain a flame.
Frost and Sullivan Industry Analyst, Krzysztof Grzybowski said, "FRX Polymers has delivered an important innovation to the world of flame resistant plastics. FRX Polymers is the first company to commercialize polyphosphonates, an innovative approach that combines non-halogen-containing flame retardancy in a polymeric form. Grzybowski also noted, "They have proven that their products deliver flame retardancy according to the most demanding of the UL 94 standards while also improving the physical properties (mechanical, heat and rheological) of many host plastics, cost effectively. Frost & Sullivan believes that FRX's polymers will become commercially important new plastics in the near future".
"FRX is delighted to receive this Award from Frost & Sullivan. This acknowledgement from one of the world's premiere global growth consulting companies, is quite an honor for all of our employees who have worked so hard to make this new material a reality," said FRX President and CEO, Marc Lebel. "We are gaining important market momentum and we are confident that our new polymers will play an important role in the future of flame resistant plastics."
