Intermec, IBM, and OATSystems Streamline RFID Solutions Implementations
EVERETT, Wash. -- Intermec (NYSE:IN) has announced that the IF61 Smart Reader is validated as a remote platform to host IBM data capture applications with IBM's newly released WebSphere Premises Server 6.1. The Intermec IF61 is the first RFID reader to provide implementers of IBM-based RFID solutions the ability to develop, deploy and maintain RFID business logic on an intelligent RFID reader platform.
The IF61 Smart Reader can host distributed applications empowering customers to deploy RFID without an expensive, stand-alone middleware PC or separate controller device for each RFID reader or each physical location. The combination of the IF61 and WebSphere Premises Server provides a scalable, reliable platform for implementing new business solutions with a lower total cost of ownership.
"When connected to the IBM WebSphere Premises Server, the Intermec IF61 provides a scalable hardware and software platform capable of hosting a diverse set of fixed RFID and sensor solution scenarios," said Scott Burroughs, sensors and actuators software strategist at IBM.
Additionally, OATSystems' OATedge software platform is now Intermec IF61-ready, providing manufacturers and retailers with packaged and proven Asset Tracking solutions, ready to run directly on the IF61, eliminating the need for additional servers and controllers. OATedge is capable of capturing, filtering, and converting RFID data into actionable events within a single edge facility. OATedge is configured, monitored and provisioned through OATenterprise, providing enterprises a central utility to monitor, manage and control their devices, data, and business logic. It also provides organizations with the ability to impact their business "at the edge," where it matters most.
"Customers looking for a scalable RFID platform capable of adapting to future business needs can now begin design with an Intermec IF61 Smart Reader leveraging OATedge," said Prasad Putta, OATSystems' founder. "This cutting-edge solution immediately provides everything needed to test deployment scenarios and to provide customers with a bundled solution on one device."
