Userplane Ranked Among 30 Largest Ad Networks in Latest comScore Media Metrix Report
Business Wire, April 15, 2008
Driven by Userplane Money, Company's Ad-Revenue Sharing Program, Social Networking Application Leader Joins Pure-Play Ad Networks on List
SAN FRANCISCO -- Userplane (www.userplane.com), the premier application provider for online communities and a wholly owned subsidiary of AOL, today announced that the company has been ranked as the 27th largest ad network in the U.S. for the month of March by comScore, Inc., a leader in measuring the digital world. Userplane made the announcement at ad:tech San Francisco, where the company is exhibiting through April 17.
Given that the comScore top 30 consists almost entirely of pure-play ad networks, the ranking affirms the success of Userplane's longtail strategy around its Userplane Money offering. Userplane Money, which was launched in May 2007, is a revenue-sharing solution that serves up unobtrusive ads to publishers and Userplane-branded products -- including its instant messaging platform Webmessenger, Webchat and widget offerings. Userplane's core business is the development and distribution of feature-rich social applications.
"First and foremost, Userplane is a company that develops applications that increase user engagement for publishers globally," said Michael Jones, CEO of Userplane and senior vice president of AOL. "With the Userplane Social Media Ad Network, we have scaled our advertising offering beyond the Userplane Applications to third-party publishers."
According to comScore's March 2008 Media Metrix report, Userplane's ad network displayed nearly 28 billion during March, placing the company comfortably among the top 30 ad networks. comScore rankings, which are considered the definitive benchmark for accessing the productivity of Web properties, are generated using comScore Ad Metrix, its proprietary technology solution that provides advertisers and publishers with detailed profiles of online display ad views.
Userplane's comScore ranking arrives on the heels of the 2008 Ad Network Study released by the online advertising network Collective Media, which found that advertisers are planning to allocate more of their budgets to ad networks this year. According to the report, agencies and advertisers will spend 75 percent or more of their online ad budgets to ad networks this year.
