Dale Earnhardt Jr. Aiming for Big Win in No. 5 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet
Business Wire, April 2, 2008
NASCAR Debut for Earnhardt-Designed GoDaddy.com Chevrolet is Saturday
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Dale Earnhardt Jr., NASCAR's most popular driver, is set to debut the new No. 5 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet he designed Saturday at the Texas Motor Speedway.
Earnhardt, a two-time Nationwide Series champion, designed the sleek black, orange and green vehicle for Go Daddy shortly after becoming a spokesman for the Internet powerhouse. He said he can't wait to rev the car's engines and compete for his first win of the season in Texas.
"I was excited about it when I designed it. Now I just can't wait to get it out there," Earnhardt said. "We're looking forward to a great run in the No. 5 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet."
Go Daddy, the world's largest domain registrar, and the largest paid host provider in the world, announced its Earnhardt sponsorship in December, after signing a deal with JR Motorsports and Hendrick Motorsports. The two organizations officially combined operations for the NASCAR Nationwide Series after the 2007 racing schedule.
The agreement made Go Daddy the primary sponsor for the No. 5 NASCAR Nationwide Series Chevrolets for six races in 2008. Mark Martin, the all-time leader in Nationwide victories, will also drive the No. 5 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet this year. Martin has already scored a victory this season at the Sam's Town 300 in Las Vegas. Also driving for Go Daddy this season is Canadian road racing ace Ron Fellows.
Nationwide Series races are broadcast live on ABC, ESPN and ESPN2. Last year, the series drew millions of TV viewers. Its popularity made the sponsorship an easy decision for Go Daddy.
"NASCAR fans eat, drink and breathe this sport. They are incredibly loyal. The sport is exhilarating and our sponsorship is just a great match all the way around," Go Daddy CEO and Founder Bob Parsons declared. "We believe our car, our drivers and our partnership are a formula for fun and success."
Parsons is so excited about the car's debut he plans to watch Earnhardt from the pits Saturday.
The O'Reilly 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series airs live Saturday on ESPN2 at 3 p.m. (E.T.)
