AuthenTec Adds Security to NTT DoCoMo's First Windows Mobile Phone with Fingerprint Sensor

Business Wire,  April 2, 2008

LAS VEGAS & MELBOURNE, Fla. -- AuthenTec (NASDAQ:AUTH), the world's leading provider of fingerprint sensors and solutions, announced that its fingerprint sensor has been integrated in the first fingerprint-enabled Windows Mobile phone produced by Fujitsu. The new FOMA(TM) F1100 phone integrates an AuthenTec fingerprint sensor to protect sensitive phone data as well as mobile commerce (m-commerce) transactions.

The FOMA F1100 is the 15th AuthenTec-enabled mobile phone that Fujitsu has developed and produced in high volume, and the company plans to launch additional AuthenTec equipped models in the future. Millions of mobile phones include an AuthenTec sensor to support m-commerce, online banking and for securing the device in the event of loss or theft.

"Today's highly mobile consumer demands that feature-rich mobile devices support not only a growing number of applications but are secure and convenient to use," said Hideyuki Saso, president Mobile Phones Unit, Fujitsu Limited. "We are pleased to now offer users a feature-rich Windows Mobile phone that includes an AuthenTec fingerprint sensor as a standard feature to secure the device, its valuable stored information, and its mobile payment capabilities."

"Fujitsu has demonstrated its market leadership with the introduction of their first fingerprint-enabled Windows Mobile phone," said AuthenTec Chairman and CEO Scott Moody. "We have had a long and successful relationship with Fujitsu because of our ability to consistently provide the latest innovations in fingerprint sensors to enhance the user experience, the reliability of our TruePrint([R]) technology, and our proven ability to deliver in very high volumes. The feature-packed FOMA F1100 is another outstanding example of an innovative mobile phone that leverages the Power of Touch features of an AuthenTec sensor."

The FOMA F1100 uses AuthenTec's fourth generation fingerprint sensor for the wireless market, the AES1710. This small, low-cost, low-power, highly integrated sensor has a durable finish that enables placement in virtually all of today's mobile device designs. The AES1710 is based on the company's patented TruePrint technology, the only solution in volume production that reads below the surface of the skin to the live layer where a person's true fingerprint resides. This unique subsurface approach enables AuthenTec sensors to read virtually every fingerprint, every time -- a critical requirement in fingerprint-enabled mobile phones.

Developed with business users in mind, the FOMA F1100 is equipped with the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.0 operating system, providing mobile users access to proven applications such as Outlook Mobile and Internet Explorer Mobile. Now available in Japan, the FOMA F1100 combines smart phone capability with mobile phone convenience.

AuthenTec sensors bring Power of Touch([R]) features to mobile phone users including security, convenience, personalization and device navigation. Fingerprint-enabled mobile phones have been particularly popular in Japan, where there were nearly 100 million wireless subscribers in 2007. In Japan, the phones are used to authenticate users and unlock mobile payment capabilities that support m-commerce. Hundreds of thousands of stores and restaurants in Japan support m-commerce, allowing cell phone users to swipe their finger across the cell phone sensor to unlock mobile payment capabilities and then tap the phone on a payment terminal to complete a transaction.
