Konica Minolta Business Solutions Chooses ExaGrid for Faster Backups and to Reduce Reliance on Tape
Business Wire, April 2, 2008
ExaGrid Provides 23 to 1 Data De-duplication; Protects Data Offsite for Disaster Recovery
WESTBOROUGH, Mass. -- ExaGrid Systems, Inc. (http://www.exagrid.com), the leader in cost-effective and scalable disk-based backup solutions with byte-level data de-duplication, today announced that Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A. has chosen a two-site ExaGrid system for faster backups and restores, and to enhance its ability to quickly recover data from an off-site location in the event of a primary site disaster.
Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A. Inc., a leader in advanced imaging and networking technologies for the desktop to the print shop, brings together unparalleled advances in security, print quality and network integration via its award-winning line of bizhub[TM] multifunction products (MFPs); bizhub PRO[TM] production printing systems; magicolor[R] desktop color laser printers and all-in-ones; and pagepro[TM] monochrome desktop laser printers and all-in-ones. Konica Minolta also offers advanced software solutions, wide-format printers, microform digital imaging systems and scanning systems for specialized applications. Konica Minolta is headquartered in Ramsey, New Jersey.
"The ExaGrid system is extremely effective at de-duplicating data," said Ed Kilianski, lead systems engineer at Konica Minolta. "ExaGrid's byte-level approach to data de-duplication made the most sense to us out of all of the solutions we looked at, and it has been very efficient. In fact, we're seeing as much as 23 to 1 reduction of our data so far."
ExaGrid combines last backup compression along with data de-duplication, which stores only byte-level changes from backup to backup instead of storing full file copies. This unique approach reduces the disk space required by a range of 10:1 to 50:1 or more, delivering unparalleled cost savings and performance. ExaGrid delivers extremely fast backup performance because data is written directly to high-speed disk, and data de-duplication is performed post-process after the data is stored.
The company purchased a two-site ExaGrid system, installing one in its data center in Ramsey and another in a separate building on the Konica Minolta campus to recover data in the event of a disaster at the Ramsey location. The ExaGrid system works in conjunction with CA ARCserve[R] Backup, Konica Minolta's backup application.
Konica Minolta now performs incremental backups of all of its data to the primary ExaGrid system each night, which then replicates the data to the second system across campus. Since installing ExaGrid, Konica Minolta's daily backup windows have been reduced by 25 percent.
"ExaGrid's industry-leading byte-level data de-duplication technology makes it a cost-effective solution for organizations like Konica Minolta seeking to reduce their reliance on tape and to make backup processes much faster and more reliable," said Bill Andrews, president and CEO of ExaGrid.
