The Largest Manufacturer of Tablet PCs for Patient Point-of-Care Applications Adopts Intermec EA15 Scan Engine For the C5 Mobile Clinical Assistant
EVERETT, Wash. -- Intermec, Inc. (NYSE:IN), the leader in automated data capture technologies, today announced that its EA15 scan engine has been chosen by Motion Computing([R]), the world's largest manufacturer of tablet PCs for the health care industry, to serve as the embedded bar code scanner for the C5 mobile clinical assistant (MCA) tablet PCs. The C5, the first-ever MCA, is based on input from thousands of clinicians worldwide and developed from the ground up with the needs of nurses and doctors in mind.
The Intermec EA15 omni-directional area imager embedded in the Motion[TM] C5 reads 1D and 2D bar codes on medications, patient and nurse IDs and medical equipment and disposables. Combined, these represent all critical parts of the five "rights" of medicine administration: right medication, right dosage, right patient, right route and right time.
"The Intermec EA15 scan engine was a logical choice to serve as a scanning foundation for the C5 Mobile Clinical Assistants," stated SVP of Operations for Motion Computing, Jerome Kearns. "The EA15 scanning performance allows clinicians to quickly, reliably and safely read all 1D and 2D bar codes used in a hospital with minimal effort, reducing chances of medication error and improving the quality of patient care."
"Since its launch, the EA15 engine has proven to be a highly reliable, high performance scan engine in many applications," said Director of OEM Sales for Intermec, Warren Rainer. "We are extremely pleased to be a key component of the C5 mobile clinical assistant platform."
The EA15 is an ultra-compact high performance 2D imager engine, ideal for OEM applications in both mobile and fixed devices including handheld terminals and scanners, PDAs, medical devices, kiosks, lottery terminals and access control devices. The EA15 is built to match the most demanding scanning requirements, providing consistent scanning performance in total darkness to full sunshine and over a large temperature range. The EA15 is based on solid state technology and complies with the most stringent standards for exposure to shock and vibration.
