LEX On Demand Joins US Department of Commerce 'Safe Harbor' Program

Business Wire, April 21, 2008

WASHINGTON -- LEX On Demand, a leading provider of E-Discovery Solutions to legal and corporate communities, announced its certification with the Safe Harbor Program of the US Department of Commerce.

"By ensuring that LEX On Demand meets European Data Privacy standards, the Safe Harbor Certification will enable LEX On Demand to process data collected in the European Union as part of its eDiscovery Services," said Leslie Baker, Director of Client Services for LEX On Demand.

The European Commission issued the Directive on Data Protection in 1998 prohibiting the transfer of personal data to non-European Union nations that did not meet the European "adequacy" standard for privacy protection. Subsequently, the US Department of Commerce, in conjunction with the European Union, established the Safe Harbor Framework to bridge the gap between the data privacy approaches of the United States and the European Union.

"Today's litigation environment," said Dave Tomashefski, President of LEX On Demand, "is increasingly Global in nature. Not only are Law Firms and Corporations multinational but their cases are increasingly so. Becoming Safe Harbor Certified will enable LEX On Demand to provide seamless eDiscovery Services to our customers, regardless of where the data originated, while ensuring US and EU data privacy regulations are met."
