Student Wins Eco-Video Contest and is Awarded a Scholarship & Car for School
SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- Miles Electric Vehicles will donate an all-electric, low-speed ZX40S Advanced Design car to Ball State University at its "Earth Day on the Green" celebration at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22.
"Ball State is committed to sustainability. It is part of our strategic plan, and that's demonstrated by our fleet, the majority of which is hybrid cars, E-85 and biodiesel vehicles and six electric buses," said Sue Weller, Ball State Director of Facilities Bus Services/Transportation. "Ball State will gladly add the MILES car to its fleet," she said.
The MILES ZX40S Advanced Design car is being given to the university on behalf of a Ball State student, Jagjeet Singh Chahal, who won the MILES Revolution Video Contest which required students to create a video highlighting the benefits of alternative fuels. The contest was sponsored by MILES and No Gas Required, a Web site dedicated to empowering students to take action in the fight for a cleaner environment.
"Sustainability has been an important aspect of my studies since I came to Ball State to study architecture," Chahal said. "I believe we should all do our part to create a more sustainable world, and it was an honor to win the contest and share these views on a national stage."
Chahal's video garnered the most views of any entrant with over 24,000 views on YouTube. The goal of the contest was to engage students in their institution's sustainability efforts and promote the use of alternative fuel vehicles on university campuses nationwide. Ball State will use the MILES vehicle on a daily basis to help promote its sustainability efforts.
Chahal, a MILES representative, and Weller will be at the presentation to give short comments and will be available for interviews and pictures following the event. Along with the MILES car, Chahal will also be receiving a $1,000 scholarship at the event.
