Top Texas Telemedicine Spinoffs Team Up
Telemedicus, Inc. (OTC:TMDI) announced today that it had entered into a teaming agreement with NuPhysicia LLC.
TMDI is commercializing the nationally recognized DREAMS[R] ambulance telemedicine technology jointly developed by Dr. Red Duke of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and Texas A&M University. Telemedicus has entered into a teaming agreement with NuPhysicia LLC, (www.nuphysicia.com), a private company that offers the clinical telemedicine programs of the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, which is widely acknowledged as one of the largest and most successful programs in the world.
"We saw the opportunity to pair our proven technology for ambulances and emergency clinics with NuPhysicia's standing team of telemedicine physicians and operations strength," stated Steven Price, COO of Telemedicus. "Having doctors who practice telemedicine, daily, working with the advanced features of our system brings powerful capabilities to patients."
"We see that Telemedicus is the world-standard system for managing the patient in crisis by telemedicine," said Dr. Glenn Hammack, President and CEO of NuPhysicia LLC. "It has undergone significant development and field-testing on ambulances. To work with such an experienced partner in this space is a significant privilege."
The two companies will be exploring business lines that combine their technologies and business methods for new medical service offerings. The base technologies of their systems, secure IP data transmissions, are complimentary, company sources say.
The companies also expect to operate joint trials of an integrated system over the next quarter. Afterward, service products utilizing the combined system will be introduced.
"NuPhysicia's track record is one of successful telemedicine operations. It is approaching important new markets with proven business models," continued Price. "This will be an important partnership for us."
Commenting on the teaming agreement, Hammack stated, "We are very pleased to be bringing together these two programs, both having roots in major Texas university medical centers. Texas is recognized as a world leader in telemedicine because of these two academic efforts. Both Texas A&M and the University of Texas can be very proud of these accomplishments."
