BakBone Announces Certification with Data Domain

Business Wire, April 23, 2008

SAN DIEGO -- BakBone Software([R]) (Pink Sheets:BKBO), the leading provider of heterogeneous integrated data protection, is now certified with Data Domain. The combination of BakBone's award-winning data protection solution, NetVault([R]): Backup, and Data Domain's advanced deduplication storage systems gives customers high-performance, cost-effective data protection that provides concurrent, scalable backup operations; seamless integration; and lower total cost of ownership.

Disk to disk backup enhances performance, increases reliability and provides comprehensive data protection. Data Domain's deduplication storage systems address a broad range of nearline storage application workloads including disk backup, archiving and network-based disaster recovery. By pairing NetVault: Backup's data protection solution with Data Domain's deduplication storage systems, organizations can efficiently address the full range of their data protection needs while achieving average data compression rates of 20x.

The combination of BakBone and Data Domain products has already helped many organizations better manage data. The City of Nampa, Idaho, is the second largest city in the state and one of the fastest growing cities in the area, reflected in expanding businesses, an increasing population of more than 80,000 and new developments. Police investigation audio records, city records, and other critical community information form the city's five terabytes of data stored across 30 servers. Nampa was using Backup Exec for its storage solution, but as the data increased, the city needed a solution with faster restore capabilities and easier accessibility.

"After researching our options, we found that NetVault: Backup with Data Domain provided the most robust solution," said Dennis D. Elledge, director of Information Systems for the City of Nampa. "It is incredibly easy to manage our archives and maintain data without having to pull out tapes. Our backup administrator enjoys using NetVault: Backup because it performs faster, is easy to access, provides fast restores for our end users, and gives us the confidence that our data is being protected."

Working together, BakBone and Data Domain now offer the following configurations:

* The ability to use Data Domain systems as network attached storage (NAS) or as a VTL within a NetVault: Backup environment

* Disk to Disk to Tape (D2D2T) backup

* Reduced backup windows with NetVault: Backup's Consolidated File System feature

"We've worked with Data Domain successfully for many years and share many joint customers. This certification helps us expand our Integrated Data Protection strategy and deliver a deeper level of interoperability to our users," said Jeff Drescher, vice president of Marketing, BakBone. "As customers take on the task of managing ever-growing data volumes, the ability to reduce redundant data is critical. By working with vendors like Data Domain, our customers have more choices for the deduplication storage systems that work best in their environments."

"Data Domain is committed to continually delivering new levels of storage and network efficiency in enterprise data protection environments," said Beth White, vice president of Marketing, Data Domain. "The certification of BakBone enables our mutual customers to confidently make use of the benefits of Data Domain's unique nearline storage capabilities."
