Fairchild Semiconductor Demonstrates Its Energy-Efficient Solutions for Motor Control, Lighting, Power Supplies and DC-DC Applications at PCIM Europe 2008
Business Wire, April 25, 2008
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) will demonstrate its technologies that maximize energy-savings in Booth 601, Hall 12 at PCIM Europe on May 27-29 in Nuremberg, Germany. The demand for energy is growing at unprecedented levels and semiconductor suppliers play an integral role in providing products that enable energy efficiency.
More than half of the world's energy is consumed in driving motors - such as fans, air conditioners, refrigerators and factory automation. To answer the need for higher energy efficiency, the industry is transitioning from single-phase AC motors to variable speed motors, resulting in 40 percent energy-savings. Fairchild's Motion-SPM[TM] products are ideal for driving motors and will be demonstrated at this conference.
Power supplies are another area that waste a tremendous amount of energy. Systems in standby mode consume nearly five percent of residential energy. Integrated power switches with soft switching, such as Fairchild's FPS[TM] products, reduce switching losses, resulting in higher levels of efficiency. Fairchild will display its wide range of AC-DC solutions that enable energy savings through resonant conversion and quasi-resonant switching.
Lighting applications consume nearly 22 percent of electrical energy generated worldwide. Reducing wasted energy in these applications can have a significant impact on energy conservation. As the industry moves from standard incandescent light bulbs to CFL, LFL and LED lighting, a 75 percent energy savings can be realized. Fairchild will also demonstrate its efficient lighting solutions that optimize performance in these designs.
Fairchild technologist Jin-Tae Kim will present a paper titled "An Asymmetric Half-Bridge Converter with Current Doubler Using a New Self-Driven Synchronous Rectifier" on Thursday, May 29 from 2:30-3:00 pm.
Fairchild will also participate in the following Forum presentations:
