Rothschild Investment Corporation Celebrates 100th Anniversary

Business Wire,  April 28, 2008

CHICAGO -- Rothschild Investment Corporation (www.rothschildinv.com) today announced that 2008 marks the firm's 100th anniversary as an independent investment management firm. Founded the same year the Chicago Cubs last won the World Series, the firm has served generations of Chicago's entrepreneurs, professionals, families, retirement plans, endowment funds and foundations.

Originally founded by Monroe Rothschild and Samuel Karger, his brother-in-law, the firm was first called Rothschild & Co., with brokerage offices in Chicago and New York. Based on Samuel's gritty conservatism, his aversion to risk and a commitment to personal customer service, Rothschild survived the 1929 stock market crash and ensuing depression.

Richard Karger, grandson of the Rothschild co-founder, said, "To reach the 100-year mark as an independent money manager says a great deal for the partners who have guided this firm through its history. It says that they kept their eyes focused on their clients' needs first and foremost, weathering the many ups and downs of the markets over the past century and the many waves of consolidation that have taken place."

Today, Karger is the third generation of the founding family to run the company, now known as Rothschild Investment Corporation. Joining the firm in 1975 from Brown Brothers Harriman, he further aligned the interests of the firm with those of its clients, introducing the fee-based Investment Management Department, which he still runs today. Under Karger's leadership, the firm is known for its conservative, disciplined portfolio management.

While stock brokerage was its original activity, Rothschild's emphasis today is on investment management. Additionally, the company sees great growth in the area of 401k's and corporate retirement plans.

"Rothschild's combination of independence and investment management expertise makes us ideally suited to advise on the creation of 401k and corporate retirement plans. Because we are independent, our clients can be confident that the investment vehicles and administrative platforms we select for their plans are based on their needs, not ours," adds Karger.

Rothschild will be commemorating the 100-year anniversary through 2008 with an advertising campaign and an as-yet unannounced philanthropic initiative focused on education.
