Churchman to Lead Iatan Construction Project
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City Power & Light (KCP&L), a subsidiary of Great Plains Energy Incorporated (NYSE: GXP), has named Carl Churchman as Vice President of Construction. Churchman's responsibilities will include oversight of the company's Iatan Construction Project, which involves constructing a new high-efficiency, coal-fired power plant (Iatan 2) near Weston, Mo., as well as adding environmental retrofits to the existing power plant at Iatan.
Churchman has broad experience working on high profile projects within the utility industry. He comes to KCP&L from Bechtel Power in Spring City, Tenn., where he was Construction Completion Director at the Watts Bar Nuclear Plant Unit 2. His duties included construction completion for all electrical, mechanical and other critical systems. Prior to that assignment, Churchman worked for Arizona Public Service Company where he was Director of Nuclear Engineering and had accountability for all engineering disciplines. While in Arizona, he was directly responsible for the steam generator replacement project at the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station.
"Maintaining steady progress on our Comprehensive Energy Plan construction projects is extremely important," said Bill Downey, President and CEO of KCP&L. "Carl's experience managing high-profile, large-scale projects in the utility industry will continue the strong project leadership at Iatan. We welcome him to our team."
When completed, the Iatan Generating Station will deliver affordable, reliable energy to meet the growing demand in the KCP&L service territory.
