Market Leaders Join Forces to Deliver Proxy-Based Controls for Data Loss Prevention in Web Communications

LAS VEGAS -- Vericept Corporation, the leading provider of data leakage prevention (DLP) solutions and Blue Coat Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:BCSI), the leader in WAN Application Delivery and Secure Web Gateway, today announced a working relationship to provide proxy-based controls for web communications, including FTP, HTTP, and HTTPS using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) communications to protect against the loss of valuable intellectual property and sensitive corporate data. To further the relationship, Vericept has joined the recently announced Blue Coat Technology Integration Partners Program and will have the Vericept Data Loss Prevention Solution communicate with Blue Coat[R] ProxySG[R] appliances through use of the Internet Content Adaptation Protocol ("ICAP") .

According to a recent SC Magazine article1, SSL encrypted communications constitute a significant and growing percentage of traffic in the enterprise LAN and WAN. While SSL encryption enhances privacy and protection of corporate and individual user information, the lack of visibility into network traffic flows that results from its use can also make it difficult for network administrators to enforce corporate policies.

"It is mission critical for enterprise organizations to monitor and control all forms of electronic communication to prevent data leakage and ensure the protection of valuable sensitive data," said Jon Olstik, senior analyst for Enterprise Strategy Group. "The Vericept and Blue Coat combined solution can automate the process for preventing breaches and enforcing policies, while at the same time assisting organizations in protecting their most valuable assets - their brand and reputation."

Together the Vericept Data Loss Prevention Solution and the Blue Coat ProxySG appliance manage and prevent the transmission of confidential data via web protocols such as HTTP, HTTPS/SSL and FTP. Blue Coat appliances inspect SSL traffic and then transmit this information to the Vericept product for content analysis and data leakage prevention. The joint solution offers a full range of detection technologies to provide a dynamic and adaptive solution for addressing potential data loss and proactive threat prevention.

"Data loss prevention requires that all Web communications must be monitored and controlled, including those shrouded in SSL encryption," said Carrie Oakes, vice president of product and technical marketing for Blue Coat Systems. "We are pleased to welcome Vericept into our Technology Integration Partners Program and work with them to offer customers a combined solution."
