OBS Medical Appoints Chief Medical Officer to Strengthen Pharmaceutical Cardiac Safety Solutions

CARMEL, Ind. -- OBS Medical today announced the appointment of Jay W. Mason, M.D. as Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. Jay Mason, a renowned and respected expert in the field of cardiology, will work closely with the OBS Medical research team on innovative clinical algorithms for safer hospitals, safer patients and safer drugs. In this capacity, Dr. Mason will support worldwide pharmaceutical and biotech clients on cardiac safety. He will also continue his independent consultative practice.

Dr. Mason joins OBS Medical after serving as Medical Director and Director of Research and Development at Covance Cardiac Safety Services from April 2003 to April 2007. Dr. Mason's career began with graduation from Princeton University and the University of Pennsylvania, where he obtained his medical degree. He trained in Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases at Stanford University Medical Center, where he was a member of the faculty from 1975 to 1983 and served as Director of the Cardiac Arrhythmia Service and Co-Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories. He became Chief of Cardiology and the University of Utah in 1983, where he was Primary Investigator of two major NIH-funded international clinical trials and an NIH-funded Specialized Center of Research in Sudden Death. In 1999, Dr. Mason was appointed Chairman of the Department of Medicine at the University of Kentucky. He remains a faculty member at the latter two institutions. Dr. Mason is the author of over 400 publications and is frequently invited to present on topics related to cardiac arrhythmias and electrophysiology.
