Texas Consumers Rate Humana Highest in Overall Member Satisfaction, in J.D. Power and Associates Study

National study produces ratings for the state's five largest health insurers, with Humana coming out on top

AUSTIN, Texas -- Humana Health Plan of Texas, part of Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM), has received the prestigious J.D. Power and Associates award for Member Satisfaction, for ranking highest among commercial health plans in the state.

J.D. Power and Associates' National Health Insurance Plan Study evaluated seven primary factors as the most significant factors in driving member satisfaction:

* Coverage and benefits

* Choice of doctors, hospitals and pharmacies

* Understandable information and communication from the health plan

Texas represents one of Humana's largest commercial markets; more than 500,000 of Humana's 3.4 million commercial health plan members live in Texas.

This is the first J.D. Power and Associates award for Humana Health Plan of Texas. In 2007, J.D. Power and Associates' first National Health Insurance Plan Study divided the country into four regions. This year, in its second national health insurance plan study, J.D. Power and Associates divided the country into 17 regions, meaning several more health plans are rated this year.

The 2008 National Health Insurance Plan Study includes responses from 37,060 total members of large commercial health plans. Members were surveyed online in November and December 2007. The study examines the member-satisfaction performance of large commercial health plans in 17 regions, with enrollments representing 83 percent of U.S. commercial health plan members. The study focuses on performance areas in which health plans can influence or control to improve the experiences of their members. Criteria for inclusion were plans with approximately 250,000 or more members across all commercial products, excluding Medicare and Medicaid.
