VDSL Service Rollout Drives Installation Growth for ADC ComProtect Gas Discharge Tube Module

Business Wire, April 8, 2008

Solution Designed for High Density Circuit Protection in FTTN Applications

MINNEAPOLIS -- ADC (NASDAQ:ADCT) (www.adc.com) announced today that installations of the company's ComProtect([R]) Gas Discharge Tube (GDT) module have grown significantly with VDSL/VDSL2 service rollout at major carriers since the solution's introduction in July 2007. Widely regarded as a leader in fiber-to-the-node (FTTN) solutions since providing its first xDSL service delivery cabinets in 2003, ADC sales in the United States are approaching two million ComProtect single-pair protection modules for FTTN networks.

Part of ADC's OmniReach(TM) fiber-to-the-x (FTTX) solutions, the ComProtect GDT is designed to provide protection for fiber-to-the-node (FTTN) network elements against over-voltage surges. Telcordia compliant ComProtect GDT is designed to future-proof broadband networks by supporting VDSL/VDSL2 signals up to 100MHz frequency. With a MSRP of $7.28 per single-pair module (US), the solution is available through many of ADC's carrier distribution partners via http://www.adc.com/partners/carrierna/index.jsp.> "Understanding carrier broadband deployment architecture and delivering innovative products demonstrates ADC's thought leadership in FTTN and commitment to compete on the highest quality and superior product performance," said Jack Field, vice president of Carrier Solutions for ADC.

When combined with ADC's LSA-PLUS([R])Series 2 termination blocks, ADC's ComProtect GDT module is a high-density system that increases the pair capacity that can be supported in outside plant (OSP) cabinets. Service providers are able to realize a 50 percent space savings over traditional solutions because protection and cross connection occupy the same footprint in the cabinet.

In addition, the ComProtect system is able to improve technician productivity and reduce network failure frequency rates by reducing the number of connection points. Further savings are realized when migrating from ADSL2 to VDSL/VDSL2 because cabinet connectivity and protection are preserved by simply changing out ComProtect Solid-State for the ComProtect GDT module.
