Clearswift Releases MIMEsweeper For Domino Edge Server to Strengthen Gateway Protection for Lotus Email Users

Business Wire,  April 8, 2008

New release guards Lotus email environments against spam, viruses and malware and helps enforce usage policies

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- Clearswift today announced the new MIMEsweeper for Domino Edge Server, an email firewall that protects IBM Lotus Notes and Domino infrastructures from spam, viruses and malware. The Domino Edge Server uses the same technology as Clearswift's award-winning MIMEsweeper Email Appliance to bring the benefits of low maintenance and ease of use to the customer.

The MIMEsweeper for Domino Edge Server is designed for existing MIMEsweeper for Domino users and will clean network traffic before it arrives at the internal network. The new architecture complements MIMEsweeper for Domino software by allowing it to focus on preventing data loss, outbound content control and policy enforcement, while the Edge Server provides dedicated, protection against spam and malware at the email gateway. Domino users now have one complete solution for email security and content management.

"The Edge Server will handle any incoming threats at the gateway and is an easy to manage solution for email hygiene. It means IT managers in an IBM Lotus Notes environment will have more free time to handle other IT issues, and benefit from improved bandwidth, disk space, responsiveness and security," said Alyn Hockey, Director of Product Management for Clearswift.

In addition to filtering spam, viruses and malware before they hit the internal network, the Edge Server provides a safe and trusted connection for confidential communications between an organization and its business partners through the use of transport layer security (TLS) encryption. The Edge Server will help make a company's servers more reliable, the networks faster and free up email storage from unwanted information.

The Edge Server features a secure Linux core and provides multiple layers of spam protection at the boundary, including spam reputation services, spam filters and anti-virus, to optimise email boundary hygiene.

"The Edge Server is a logical extension of Clearswift's vision for policy enforcement, which is the key for any Internet and email security strategy. The service allows us to address all email hygiene issues in a single location outside the network while freeing the content engines to focus on content security and policy enforcement," Hockey said.

The Edge Server includes the following features:

-- Advanced anti-spam technology supporting
    -- Clearswift's TRUSTmanager hands-free reputation services
    -- Clearswift's SPAMlogic anti-spam engine
-- Grey Listing capability for spam connection management
-- DNS-based filters using SPF, RBL and SURBL
-- Bayesian, Signatures and Heuristic engines
    -- ThreatLAB managed lists
-- Kaspersky anti-virus available as a costed option
-- Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption for server to server connections
-- Generation of SNMP and SMTP alerts for system alarms
-- Email-based digest system to permit end users to manage their own spam
-- Remote/scheduled backups, updating and patching support
-- Multi-server peering for consistent policy enforcement
