QuickSec Client Toolkit Enables Alcatel-Lucent to Provide Secure "always-on" VPN, Key Feature for Remote Laptop Management of the Mobile Workforce

BALTIMORE -- SafeNet, Inc., a global leader in information security, today announced that Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) has teamed with SafeNet to offer enterprise customers a ground-breaking wireless laptop security, management, and tracking system that operates transparently to the mobile user.

With the Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian wireless platform, IT staff can now address the "mobile blindspot" by remotely protecting sensitive data on employees' mobile laptops anytime, anywhere, even when the laptop is powered off, lost, or stolen. This enables organizations to extend the same level of robust security that is available for computers within the enterprise network to laptops distributed across a mobile workforce.

A key product feature developed by Alcatel-Lucent using the SafeNet toolkit is Auto-VPN connection. With no user action, a VPN IPSEC connection is established automatically -- every time the user goes online, no matter how the user accesses the network (3G, WiFi, LAN). With this feature, consistent security is always enforced, as users are always behind the enterprise firewalls.

"The OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian addresses the security challenges associated with increased workforce mobility while increasing user productivity," said Dor Skuler, general manager for Alcatel-Lucent's enterprise mobile security solutions. "The "always on" VPN solution developed using the SafeNet's QuickSec IPSec VPN technology allows Alcatel-Lucent to ensure uninterrupted, secure network connections that are transparent to the mobile end-user. Now the CIO can rest assured, as end-users are always connected to the enterprise network."

By embedding SafeNet's QuickSec VPN software, Alcatel-Lucent is able to build advanced IPSec VPN security features and seamless roaming directly into the core of the Omni Access 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian wireless platform.

"Historically, increased workforce mobility has meant increased risk. Enterprises need innovative solutions like the Alcatel-Lucent's Nonstop Laptop Guardian in order to reduce this risk in a secure business model," said Simon Blake-Wilson, Managing Director, Mobile and Networking Security Solutions, SafeNet. "SafeNet is proud to provide proven, reliable security solutions, such as QuickSec, to leading global providers like Alcatel-Lucent, enabling them to provide cutting edge security solutions to enterprises."

The pairing of QuickSec, SafeNet's IPSec VPN toolkit with the Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian will ensure that regardless of network connection type, and regardless of end-user action, all IP traffic will pass directly through the company's protection filters and policy managers before accessing the Internet, thus providing the highest level of mobile security available.
