CEA Applauds Key Government Leaders Advancing the DTV Transition
Business Wire, April 8, 2008
ARLINGTON, Va. -- In testimony today before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation's DTV Transition Oversight hearing, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Kevin Martin and NTIA Acting Administrator Meredith Attwell Baker discussed ongoing consumer education initiatives that support the nation's readiness for the digital television (DTV) transition. The following comment can be attributed to Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)([R]) senior vice president, Government Affairs, Michael Petricone:
"We thank Chairman Martin and Acting Administrator Baker for their dedication to the firm DTV transition date and we commend their leadership in promoting consumer education. Already three-quarters of Americans are aware of the DTV transition, but CEA is aware that continued consumer education is crucial to ensuring a successful transition for all TV viewers.
"CEA's tireless DTV education efforts include an exciting new campaign encouraging baby boomers to help educate their parents, relatives and neighbors. CEA's Convert your Mom campaign enlists America's favorite TV mom, Florence Henderson, best known for her role as Carol Brady on TV's "The Brady Bunch" to help get the word out to seniors and their families about this historic transition.
"CEA will continue its successful private/public partnerships to educate consumers, which have already raised consumer awareness by 80 percent over the past 18 months. In addition to consumer resources on www.DigitalTips.org, CEA has prepared a toolkit for members of Congress and has led numerous grassroots education initiatives that directly reach consumers."
