Coverage Spotlights Blood Serum Diagnostic Test For The Early Detection of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's
HOUSTON, Tex. -- Power3 Medical Products, Inc. (OTCBB: PWRM, https://www.power3medical.com), a leading proteomics company specializing in the development and commercialization of diagnostic tests for the early detection of breast cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, was recently spotlighted in several prominent local, national, and international news outlets.
On April 7, 2008, the BBC News website published an article in its "Health" section titled, "Alzheimer's Blood Test 'Promise.'" The piece highlighted NuroPro[TM], Power3's blood serum diagnostic test for the early detection of neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson disease. In the article, the author writes, "The test, called NuroPro, measures levels of 59 biomarkers - proteins in the blood. The relative levels of the markers are used to distinguish between Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and another neurodegenerative disease called Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease)." The numbers quoted in the BBC article addressed Power3's initial Validation Study results. To date, the results of Power3's Validation Study are from over 700 patient samples, indicating a sensitivity and specificity of over 90% for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. Power3 is currently conducting clinical validation studies in the U.S. and Greece and the company hopes to launch the NuroPro[TM] test in the US, Greece and select countries this year, if the validation study results are positive.
This article was also picked up by the Drudge Report, a U.S.-based news aggregation website run by Matt Drudge. The site consists primarily of links to stories from the U.S. and international mainstream media about politics, entertainment, and current events, as well as links to many popular columnists. The link to the BBC News article appeared on the front page of the Drudge Report on April 7, 2008.
WTOP, ALL NEWS RADIO, which broadcasts to the greater Washington, D.C. area (covering three states and serving more than one million listeners), also picked up the story, running a 38 second segment and a 35 second segment on its AM and FM networks, alternating one each hour beginning at noon on Monday, April 7, 2008.
"We are delighted to have been featured on the BBC News website, the Drudge Report, and WTOP All News Radio," said Steve Rash, Chief Executive Officer of Power3. "As stated in both the articles and the radio segment, there is currently no diagnostic test for any of these neurodegenerative diseases on the market. With diagnoses currently based solely on a clinical evaluation of symptoms, a blood test could be particularly useful for the early detection of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases. We appreciate the value of this kind of media attention in bringing our story to the broader community of patients and medical practitioners."
