Denver Democratic National Convention, St. Paul Republican National Convention Among the Stops
BELTSVILLE, Md. -- The City Tour for Solar launches Friday, August 1 at Golden Colorado's National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The dynamic tour website (www.citytourforsolar.com) will chronicle the journey of two colorful biodiesel trucks spanning the Western and Southwest states over 100 days. The trucks will transport the City Tour for Solar's free, public educational exhibits. The solar tour will bring these interactive exhibits to 50 cities in Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Minnesota and Colorado.
The City Tour for Solar website will feature a detailed Tour Schedule, Tour Journal, Partner Section, Media Corner, "3 Steps to Solar" video vignettes as well as daily postings of photos and video from the tour. Visitors may sign up for Journal Alerts which will alert them as to when the tour nears their town as well as partner and environmental events associated with the tour. The tour will stage exhibits at both the Denver Democratic National Convention in Denver and the Republican National Convention in St. Paul.
"We are at an intersection of environmental concerns," said Thomas (Tom) Rainwater, CEO of SunEdison. "In the past, solar energy was considered an alternative energy, and it was relegated to a few rooftops or what we call "off-grid" applications. Today, there is an opportunity to make this a mainstream energy resource. This tour will help educate people in 50 cities on the ability we have right now, to generate power in their cities using solar energy."
SunEdison, North America's largest solar energy services provider, is the lead sponsor of the tour with four leading solar industry companies: Evergreen Solar, Inc., a manufacturer of solar power panels; United Solar Ovonic, LLC, a manufacturer of thin-film solar laminates; SMA America, Inc., a manufacturer of solar inverters; and Xantrex Technology, Inc., a manufacturer of advanced power electronic products, including solar inverters.
Tour Schedule
The Solar City Tour will begin Friday, August 1, at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colo., and will visit 50 cities in the Western United States. The tour will conclude on November 14, in Sacramento, Calif.
