CNBC's Guy Adami Joins optionMONSTER®, Launches Drakon Capital
Business Wire, August 19, 2008
CHICAGO -- optionMONSTER[R], a leading news and market-intelligence service for options traders, announced that CNBC "Fast Money" cast member Guy Adami has joined the company and is heading up a new research business aimed at institutional investors in equities and equity derivatives.
Adami, a past trading executive with Goldman Sachs and CIBC World Markets, is leading Drakon Capital[TM] (www.drakoncapital.com) in delivering customized market analysis, portfolio strategy, and idea generation for institutional money managers and hedge funds. Clients use these event-driven insights and trading ideas to refine their own positions. Based on a proprietary analytic framework, www.drakoncapital.com launched earlier this month.
Simultaneously, Adami is authoring a weekly newsletter for retail investors entitled "Advantage Point," and contributing daily pre-market analysis and webcasts to optionMONSTER's news site at www.optionmonster.com.
"We are delighted that Guy Adami, a trading veteran with a great reputation on Wall Street, is joining optionMONSTER to build up our institutional business and share his insights with our retail clients," optionMONSTER co-founder and chief executive Dirk Mueller said in making the announcement.
As investors more carefully evaluate risk and reward in an uncertain climate, many are seeking to improve returns by gaining direct access to distinguished investment professionals. Television programs like "Fast Money," which Adami has helped become a leader in its genre, are therefore growing in popularity.
A professional investor and noted speaker, Adami launched his Wall Street career more than two decades ago with Drexel Burnham Lambert, trading in the New York Mercantile Exchange energy and metal pits. Several years later, he was named head gold trader on the company's bullion desk, where he forged lasting relationships with legendary investors Sir James Goldsmith and Kerry Packer.
In 1996, Adami joined Goldman Sachs' famed commodities group, J. Aron, as vice president. While there he worked for the likes of Gary Cohn and Lloyd Blankfein, Goldman's current chief executive. In 2000, Adami moved to Goldman's equities group, where he was quickly asked to head up the trading side of the industrial and basic materials group.
In 2003, Adami left to become an executive director at CIBC World Markets and from this perch he branched into his current work broadcast television.
"Working closely with Pete each day as well as Jon when he joins us on 'Fast Money' has provided me direct insight as to optionMONSTER's incredible potential. Having weighed numerous opportunities over the last few months, I have decided that joining forces is the right move at the right time.
"Now more than ever, trading professionals as well as retail investors need assistance in navigating the markets. It is my hope and goal that we can provide timely, intelligent, and actionable information and insight to the trading community," Adami said.
