Industry-Leading Publication Recognizes the Value of Data Virtualization for Real World IT Challenges

WALTHAM, Mass. -- xkoto, the database virtualization company, today announced it has been named one of the top ten technology startups for 2008 by readers of InformationWeek. xkoto finished third in the balloting, and as a result will present at the 20th annual InformationWeek 500 Conference, September 14-16 in Monarch Beach, California.

More than 1,000 votes were cast by InformationWeek readers in its first contest to select the startup of the year. The top six startups in the online balloting will be graded by a panel of CIO judges at the InformationWeek 500 Conference. Each company will be judged on its business model, products and feasibility.

"Our GRIDSCALE database virtualization software is rapidly gaining traction among enterprises that need to provide continuous availability and high performance for critical database applications," said David Patrick, President and Chief Executive Officer, xkoto. "It is a tremendous honor to be named one of the top ten startups and to have the opportunity to address the influential audience at the InformationWeek 500 Conference."

"These top ten startups are addressing some of the real pain points of enterprise IT," said John Foley, Editor, InformationWeek. "They have cleared one hurdle -- InformationWeek readers have given them a thumbs up. Six now face one more test -- getting the CIOs' stamp of approval."

GRIDSCALE database virtualization software manages multiple, identical databases to run on a cluster of systems with the same or better reliability and performance than more expensive, proprietary systems. Because GRIDSCALE is an active-active solution, all the servers in the cluster are accessible, fully utilized, and can be dispersed geographically to mitigate disaster scenarios. Applications get consistent data reliably and quickly, and by sharing the load across multiple servers, the loss of any one server does not have an impact on availability. In addition, systems continue to run to their full capability even when individual servers are taken offline for maintenance.
