Superstar Ashanti Will Bring Down the House at The Grove's Free Summer Concert Series Finale on August 27

LOS ANGELES -- Celebrate the end of the summer at The Grove as superstar Ashanti performs songs from her recent album, The Declaration. Having sold nearly 15 million records worldwide, Ashanti is most famous for her Grammy Award-winning debut Ashanti, which sold over 503,000 copies in its first week of release in the U.S. In the same week, she became the first female performer to simultaneously hold the top three places on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart with "Foolish," "Always on Time" and "What's Luv." An accomplished actress and author, Ashanti has starred in major films, Coach Carter, Resident Evil 3 - Extinction, and John Tucker Must Die. Her book, Foolish/Unfoolish Reflections on Love is currently in its 8th edition.
The first opener for Ashanti is new boy band Varsity Fanclub who are already making waves with their dance-oriented pop and R&B songs including the band's debut single, the Ryan Tedder-penned "Future Love." Varsity Fanclub features the talented vocalist/dancers Thomas Fiss, Jayk Purdy, Drew Ryan Scott, Bobby Edner and David Lei Brandt. The group's debut album is slated for release in 2009.
The second opener of the evening will be Karmina, performing songs from their recently released debut album from CBS Records, Backwards into Beauty, featuring their first hit single "The Kiss." The pop music of Karmina, led by sisters Kelly (lead vocals, harmonies, keyboards) and Kamille (lead vocals, harmonies, guitars), has been featured on television shows The Hills, NCIS, Cane and Life is Wild. They have appeared with such stars as Sheryl Crow, Fergie, Carole King, James Blunt and Reba McEntire on the CBS holiday special, A Home for the Holidays.
