BBC Uses Envivio Encoders in Production of Beijing Olympic Games

Business Wire, August 26, 2008

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Envivio, the leading technology provider of IP video convergence encoding solutions from mobile to HD, today announced that the BBC selected Envivio video encoders to deliver live video feeds of the Beijing Olympic Games to its production staff in the UK. The encoders were selected for their ability to deliver high quality video in very low bit rates for delivery over IP networks. The encoders for the Olympics are in addition to other applications where the BBC employs Envivio encoders, including live video contribution for the nightly news.

Envivio encoders power many low bandwidth, high definition and standard definition IP and satellite-delivered video networks around the world. Advanced features such as Envivio's exclusive Extreme Compression technology allows its encoder to combine the industry-leading low end-to-end latency performance with bandwidth savings of as much as 30%. The result is the ability to deliver high quality news and sports feeds at well under 2 Mbps. An independent audio channel capability allows a second, completely independent audio stream to be sent alongside the video stream to enable TV and radio feeds to be sent simultaneously over the same link. Enhanced store and forward capability allows content to be recorded at higher bandwidths and then fed to the studio over lower bandwidth links.

Envivio will demonstrate its encoding solution at IBC 2008 in Amsterdam from September 12-16, 2008 in booth 5.A19.
