Department of Homeland Security Discusses Security Challenges and Solutions for the Pharmaceutical Cold Chain

Business Wire, August 5, 2008

PHILADELPHIA -- The Department of Homeland Security/U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) joins the workshop panel titled "Security Challenges and Tools for the Cold Chain" during the 6(th) Annual Cold Chain Distribution for Pharmaceuticals (www.coldchainpharma.com) held September 22-25, 2008 in Philadelphia by the International Quality and Productivity Center (IQPC).

The workshop, facilitated by Phil Viggiani, V.P. Sales & Marketing, IDGLOBAL Corporation, features a cross-functional discussion on preventing disruptions along the cold chain. Leaders include:

* David Faulconer, Section Chief, Department of Homeland Security/ICE

* Craig Thurber, National Program Manager, Department of Homeland Security/ICE

* Don Daubert, President and COO, ATL Security Label Systems

* Nathaniel Lipkus, Associate Attorney, Gilbert's LLP

"Discernable continuity continues to be the critical issue in cold chain distribution for pharmaceuticals," states David Faulconer, Section Chief, Dept. of Homeland Security/ICE. "Previous environmental and temperature control concerns for legitimate products are now coupled with supply chain threats from expired, adulterated, and prohibited 'gray market' and counterfeit merchandiseOthe solution may rest in layered security, intertwined with environmental control technologies and essential government/industry partnerships."

The workshop will explore a combination of tools and alliances which help ensure temperature-sensitive products reach the end-user safely without compromising product security, including forensic detection and "track and trace" technologies, overt/covert applications, and government investigations on packaging.

Phil Viggiani, V.P. Sales & Marketing, IDGLOBAL Corp. adds, "We have a firm belief that the most efficient value proposition for creating a safe and secure supply chain is the incorporation of both product quality and the actual product authentication. At this very critical time, the pharmaceutical supply chain is re-evaluating its collective options regarding pedigree rules and counterfeiting as they relate to brand protection."
