JMAR Technologies Announces Purchase of Biosentry Water Monitoring System by City of Tucson
Business Wire, August 6, 2008
SAN DIEGO -- JMAR Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB: JMAR), a leading developer of advanced laser, photonics and detection technologies, today reported that the City of Tucson, Arizona, has purchased the Company's BioSentry[TM] System with a congressional grant administered through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The project is a continuation of the Tucson Water Security Demonstration Project in EPA Region 9. The purchase represents the third BioSentry to be installed by a major U.S. municipal water department.
"Our purchase of the BioSentry system is based upon the need to complete both proof of concept testing by the University of Arizona and operational field evaluations by Tucson Water with the unit installed in the distribution system," said Bruce Johnson, Deputy Director of the Tucson Water Department. "Based upon testing results, the BioSentry system may become a component of our water monitoring program to maintain high-quality, safe, drinking water for the City of Tucson."
The laser-based BioSentry system, the first major commercial product from JMAR's advanced research group, can immediately detect the presence of microorganisms and classify them within minutes, helping to ensure the continuing safety and quality of water supplies. It can easily be integrated into most water delivery systems, and it offers an optional, state-of-the-art touch screen interface that provides a real-time graphical depiction of water status. In Tucson it may be part of a suite of instruments for chemical and biological detection.
"Based on the recently released test data from the EPA, we are confident that the City of Tucson will experience similar positive test results," JMAR Technologies' President and CEO C. Neil Beer, Ph.D., commented, "We expect other cities will take note of Tucson's extensive monitoring program and the fact that BioSentry is being implemented to support this critical operation."
