Washington Trust Annual Shareholders Meeting To Be Held On April 22, 2008

WESTERLY, R.I. -- Washington Trust Bancorp, Inc. (Nasdaq: WASH), has announced that its Annual Meeting of Shareholders will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at the Westerly Public Library, beginning at 11 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Library is located at 44 Broad Street in downtown Westerly, across the street from Washington Trust's corporate headquarters. Free parking is available in the Washington Trust parking garage.

The meeting will be held for the purpose of considering and acting upon the following:

1. The election of five directors for three year terms, each to serve until their successors are duly elected and qualified; and

2. Such other business as may properly come before the meeting, or any adjournment thereof.

The record date for the Annual Meeting is February 25, 2008. Proxy statements, 2007 Annual Reports to Shareholders, Annual Reports on Form 10-K for the year-ended December 31, 2007, voting materials and meeting information will be mailed on March 14, 2008, to shareholders of record.
