Alion and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Partner to Offer Online Modeling and Simulation Courses
Business Wire, Feb 12, 2008
Certificate Program Will Provide Training on Applying M&S to Military and Business Challenges
MCLEAN, Va. -- Alion Science and Technology and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Worldwide Campus, of Daytona Beach, FL, have partnered to offer online courses to train military and business users on the uses and benefits of modeling and simulation.
The first course, "Introduction to Modeling and Simulation," is now available online. The course presents basic terms, concepts and organizations related to modeling and simulation (M&S). It is designed for any newcomer to the field of M&S, and it provides examples of solutions that can be adapted for many situations, whether military or business-oriented. The curriculum also includes information on the Department of Defense M&S organization's vision and strategy; M&S interoperability; and the Verification, Validation and Accreditation (VV&A) process.
The ultimate goal is to offer six courses leading to an Embry-Riddle noncredit certificate. The courses address both military and civilian uses of modeling and simulation. The curriculum at Embry-Riddle covers the operation, engineering, research, manufacturing, marketing and management of modern aircraft and the systems that support them. "What's unique about these modeling and simulation courses is that they are being offered to technical and non-technical people, both within the Department of Defense and within industry," said Sue Archer, Alion Senior Vice President and Manager of the Operational Solutions Group.
"Our Worldwide Campus provides instruction through more than 130 campus locations in the United States, Europe, Canada and the Middle East and through online learning," said Thorsten Hisam, director of Embry-Riddle's Office of Professional Education. "We are excited to partner with Alion Science and Technology to help bring modeling and simulation expertise to a global audience via the Internet."
Alion has taught modeling and simulation courses at U.S. colleges and universities for several years. The relationship with Embry-Riddle allows for asynchronous learning at a student's own pace.
"The Embry-Riddle/Alion team combines Embry-Riddle's world-class expertise in aviation and aerospace education and Alion's extensive experience in teaching modeling and simulation, developed through over 1,300 presentations to over 13,000 students since 1997. This online M&S education opportunity will allow students worldwide to become familiar with the terminology, concepts, strengths, and limitations of M&S from the comfort of their homes or offices," said Alion's Sue Archer.
Students can register for the "Intro to M&S Course" via the Embry-Riddle Web site at www.embryriddle.edu/professionaleducation or call Al Astbury at (866) 574-9125.
