Huron Consulting Group Joins EU Data Privacy Safe Harbor

CHICAGO -- Huron Consulting Group (NASDAQ: HURN), a leading provider of financial and operational consulting services, today announced that it has been accepted into the U.S. Department of Commerce Safe Harbor Program. This data protection agreement between the U.S. and European Union (EU) allows the Company uninterrupted flow of information from the EU to the United States, based on meeting firmly established data security requirements outlined in the European Commission's Directive on Data Protection.

Safe Harbor registration allows Huron clients to send their EU data to Company facilities in the U.S. with confidence that the data will be adequately safeguarded. The European Commission's Directive on Data Protection, established in 1998, prohibits the transfer of personal data to non-European Union nations that do not meet the European "adequacy" standard for privacy protection. The EU Safe Harbor, approved by the EU in 2000, provides a method for U.S. companies to comply with European privacy laws and efficiently transmit data across U.S.-EU borders. Organizations voluntarily certify to the Safe Harbor, and must re-certify annually.
