IDS Scheer Previews Best-in-Class IT Execution Through Joint Solution with BMC Software
Business Wire, Feb 14, 2008
ORLANDO, Fla. -- IDS Scheer today previewed the customer benefits of the new integrated offering of ARIS Business Architect and the BMC Atrium CMDB product, which enables the design and building of IT Services based on business processes.
The combined bi-directional solution, which will be available from IDS Scheer early in the second quarter of 2008, dramatically increases the agility and business value of a customer's IT infrastructure. By linking Business Process Excellence from ARIS with IT Service Management from BMC Software, customers will be able to document cause-and-effect relationships between the business process and IT components to provide the business with valuable knowledge on the impact to a business process based on changes or events occurring to the underlying IT infrastructure.

"Our strong pipeline indicates that many organizations realize the power of our collaboration and the tight integration of ARIS Platform with the BMC Atrium CMDB," said Dr. Wolfram Jost, Member of the Executive Board with responsibility for Product Strategy and Development of IDS Scheer. "This dynamic partnership with BMC Software will help customers harness their IT to be the key component for business transformation and improve operational efficiency through alignment of IT with business goals. This approach will help companies achieve great improvements in business performance by automatically integrating business processes with IT services as the foundation of a solid enterprise architecture."
Jim Grant, senior vice president and general manager of BMC's Enterprise Service Management business unit, said: "Partnering with IDS Scheer on this joint solution enables BMC customers to maximize their investment in Business Service Management (BSM) solutions and improve IT responsiveness by documenting the relationships between business processes and the underlying IT components. With BSM, CIOs are better able to align IT with the business goals in mind to drive revenue, control costs, and mitigate risk.
The BMC Discovery for Business Processes product, developed by BMC in partnership with IDS Scheer, enables IT departments to automatically discover business process models from ARIS Business Architect and dynamically map them with information on IT services and infrastructure stored in the BMC Atrium CMDB solution. By automating business process discovery into the Configuration Management Database (CMDB), the IT department can determine which business process is affected when IT events occur and then prioritize events according to their impact on the business. This not only improves business efficiency by aligning business and IT processes, but dramatically reduces the overhead by automating the alignment process.
EDS Business Solutions, a partner of both BMC and IDS Scheer, has created a Center of Expertise to support the joint integration project and to help organizations understand the business benefits and inherent value of automated business process discovery tools. "EDS has standardized on the ARIS tools and methodology for its Business Service Management, Enterprise Architecture, Outsourcing and Managed Services practice areas," said Andreas Jordan, Head of the Center for Expertise, EDS Business Solutions GmbH, Germany. "Customers such as Karstadt Quelle-Competence Center Retail and other major industry customers see tremendous value in an integrated offering that combines business process models into CMDB, which will ultimately drive greater business performance through improved IT and business alignment."
