TUCSON, Ariz. -- Philip J. Dion III has been named Vice President of Legal and Environmental Services for UniSource Energy Corporation (NYSE: UNS).

Dion has served as chief of staff and chief legal advisor to Commissioner Marc Spitzer of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Before Spitzer's appointment to FERC, Dion served as his advisor at the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC).

"Phil's legal experience and expertise in energy industry regulation will prove invaluable as we manage rate requests and other regulatory matters," said James S. Pignatelli, Chairman, President and CEO of UniSource Energy.

Dion, who begins March 1, will oversee the legal, environmental services and regulatory counsel areas for UniSource Energy and its subsidiaries, including Tucson Electric Power (TEP) and UniSource Energy Services (UES). He will report to Raymond S. Heyman, Senior Vice President and General Counsel.

"I'm very happy to have Phil on board," Heyman said. "I've always been impressed with his work at the Commission and most recently at FERC, and I'm looking forward to having him join our team here at UniSource Energy."

After graduating from the University of Arizona in 1990, Dion earned an MBA from Leavey School of Business and a Juris Doctorate from the Santa Clara University School of Law before serving five years as a Deputy Maricopa County Attorney. He later worked as an administrative law judge with the ACC before becoming Spitzer's advisor in 2004.

UniSource Energy's primary subsidiaries include TEP, which serves more than 397,000 customers in southern Arizona, and UES, provider of natural gas and electric service for nearly 240,000 customers in northern and southern Arizona.
