Charter Communications Joins Cable Industry's "Our Time to Vote" Multi-Cultural Voter Education and Registration Campaign
Business Wire, Feb 20, 2008
ST. LOUIS -- Charter Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:CHTR) announced today it has joined the Cable Industry's "Our Time to Vote" multi-cultural voter education and registration campaign. Charter has committed $1.75 million of airtime for the program's public service announcements (PSAs) in addition to the $5 million already committed by Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, and Bright House Networks.
"Our Time to Vote" is a year-long, non-partisan voter education and registration campaign created by the Comcast Foundation, a non-profit trust of Comcast Corporation, designed to increase voting in diverse communities served by the cable industry.
"Charter is pleased to contribute to this program. Broad participation in the democratic process is important to our country, and it is critical to supporting strong local communities," said Grier Raclin, Executive Vice President and General Counsel for Charter. "This campaign reflects the cable industry's commitment to active public citizenship."
The estimated $6.75 million campaign features four multi-cultural PSAs, as well as the creation and launch of two nationally available voter education resources: the www.ourtimetovote.com webpage and a voter information resources hotline, 1.866.544.VOTE.
The PSAs began airing in December of 2007, and will continue to run through the 2008 primary elections in Charter, Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox and Bright House Networks markets. They feature appearances by African American, Asian American and Hispanic entertainers and leaders, including Ana Ortiz, George Lopez, Lou Diamond Phillips, Malcolm-Jamal Warner and Margaret Cho, encouraging diverse audiences to register to vote. A series of "Get out the Vote" spots will run from September 1, 2008, through November 3, 2008, just prior to the general election. The PSAs can be viewed at:

"'Our Time to Vote' is designed to bring a wide range of diverse Americans into the voting process," added Susan Gonzales, Corporate Senior Director of Federal and External Affairs and Vice President of the Comcast Foundation. "As an industry dedicated to diversity, we are pleased to make this contribution to broadened civic engagement in the African American, Asian American and Pacific Islander and Hispanic communities. We are pleased Charter has joined this important program."
