Data Security and Privacy Standards Ensured for Clients in European Union

CHESTER, Pa. -- Synygy, Inc., a recognized authority on sales performance management, announced today that it has been certified by the U.S. Department of Commerce as compliant with the United States-European Union (EU) Safe Harbor Framework. The Safe Harbor Framework was developed by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the European Commission to ensure the privacy and security of personal data originating in EU member countries.

The certification eliminates the need for prior approval before transferring data between the EU and U.S. in most cases, and, in all cases, ensures prompt approval of such transfer from data protection authorities in EU member states. As a result, Synygy clients are assured fast, safe data handling between the EU and the U.S.

"Synygy is the largest provider of sales compensation management solutions in Europe," noted Mark A. Stiffler, president and CEO of Synygy. "Along with our SAS70 Type II certification, this Safe Harbor designation underscores the degree of security that Synygy has in place to protect the sensitive and confidential data that is entrusted to us for processing and hosting by our global network of clients."

The European Commission's Directive on Data Protection prohibits the transfer of personal data to countries outside of the European Economic Area to nations that do not meet the EU standard for privacy protection. Approved by the EU in 2000, Safe Harbor provides a streamlined means for US organizations to comply with EU data standards for protecting personal data privacy and improve service to their clients in the EU.

Organizations voluntarily certify to the Safe Harbor, and must re-certify annually.
