CA Management Solutions for New IBM z10 Enterprise Class Help Customers Maximize Mainframe Value
Business Wire, Feb 26, 2008
Broad "Day One" Support for Next-Generation Platform Facilitates IT Scalability, Reduced IT Costs and "Green Computing"
ISLANDIA, N.Y. -- CA (NYSE: CA) today announced it is offering Day One support for IBM's newly announced z10 Enterprise Class platform throughout its mainframe management product lines, enabling customers to accelerate their z10 Enterprise Class implementations and optimize the total business value from their upgrades.
CA's management solutions also empower customers to more efficiently operate z10 hardware, more intelligently allocate z10 resources according to business priorities, and more effectively use the z10 platform as a network server within service oriented architectures (SOA) by providing IT organizations with a common visibility into and control over all the elements of their heterogeneous enterprise computing environments.
These management capabilities better enable customers to fully scale mainframe performance to meet business demand, to reduce the overall ownership costs associated with the z10 and other platforms, and to take advantage of the z10's exceptional energy-efficiency as part of their broader "green computing" initiatives.
IBM's z10 Enterprise Class, the next generation of its tremendously successful System z platform, enables unprecedented levels of workload consolidation and extends the mainframe's supremacy in security, resiliency, and performance.
CA worked closely with IBM to ensure tight integration of its management solutions portfolio with the z10 Enterprise Class platform. CA actively participated in IBM's Early Support Program for the z10 hardware by supporting select mutual customers and installing the z10 in CA's data center.
"For more than 30 years, CA has been with IBM step-for-step with the introduction of new mainframe platforms," said Chris O'Malley, senior vice president and general manager of CA's Mainframe Business Unit. "We are excited about working closely with our mutual customers to ensure that their transition to the z10 Enterprise Class is a smooth one--and that they fully leverage all of the new capabilities IBM is delivering."
Customers can further increase the business value of their z10 investments with CA mainframe management solutions that offload processing to IBM zIIP specialty engines, which provide significantly better price/performance in the z10 than in previous hardware. CA products that currently support zIIP engines include CA NetMaster Network Management, CA Tape Encryption and CA Vtape Virtual Tape System. Additional examples of the many CA solutions that will support IBM's z10 Enterprise Class include:
* CA OPS/MVS and CA SYSVIEW - For visualization, monitoring and automated control of system resources at the LPAR, Sysplex, and complete z10 EC configuration levels.
* CA z/VM and Linux server and CA Wily application management solutions - For consolidating distributed server workloads into significantly more efficient virtual machines running on z10 hardware, and ensuring peak performance of Java web applications and web services running on Linux and z/OS.
* CA's DB2 and IMS tools - For leveraging capabilities of the z10 such as zIIP processors and memory and coupling facility improvements to enhance management of DB2 and IMS applications.
* CA ACF2 and CA Top Secret - For exploiting z10 security features, such as AES hardware cryptographic functions, to further protect the privacy of data and communications and to support more demanding compliance requirements.
